Maanush janam nun safal karan layi punn daan ishnaan kare; Kar kar path tapsya koi desh sewa te maan kare. koi samjhe hai uttam sewa sewa karni bande di; changi gal change kam karne gal na karni mande di. Par ki changa ki manda ey is di saar nun jane na; Kahe avtar hai oh nar moorakh jo eh ramaz pachhane na. |

In order to accomplish the aim of human life, some perform acts of charity, donate
money and bathe at places of pilgrimage; Some feel proud of reciting the holy scriptures, some meditation and others of their service to the country. Some think that service of humanity is the noblest service; Some think that doing good deeds is good, and one need not talk of anything evil. But, none knows what is good and what is bad; Avtar says, unwise is the person who does not care to understand this secret. |
Meaning
Some people involve themselves in certain acts thinking that this might help in making their lives successful and meaningful. Like some do charity, donate money, bathe at holy places, recite holy scriptures, meditate or serve their country. Some think that service of humanity is the noblest service. Some think that doing good deeds is good, and one need not talk of anything evil. But, no one actually knows what is good and what is bad. Here Baba Avtar Singh ji is saying that unwise is the person who does not care to understand this secret.
